Background:

Over the last couple of years I have been very blessed to be able to travel all over, so I know a thing or two about traveling.  That is why I am going to give yall a quick run down.

Airport:

The biggest problems that people run into at airports are security.  DON’T HAVE ANY LIQUID IF YOU DON’T NEED IT.  And remember that if you do have liquid on your carry on it has to be less than 3oz in a Ziploc bag.  That’s all I can really think of right now.

Packing:

When you are packing try to bring clothes that you don’t mind getting rid of.  That way we can give our clothes either to a local Goodwill or the orphanage.  This will also be helpful for you if you decide to buy something.

If you have a backpacking pack I would encourage you to bring that.  It will make it easier for us, cause its not always easy to roll a suitcase in a foreign country.   ***BUT IF YOU DON’T HAVE A PACK DON’T GO AND BUY ONE, YOU WILL BE FINE.***  Bring a school kind of backpack or bag for when we do stuff during the day.  You might not need it but just stuff it in your bag just in case you do.

Also bring a weeks worth of clothes.  I know that we are going to be gone for two weeks but we can re-wear something once.  !!Except bring enough underwear for two weeks!!  Also bring a raincoat and a bathing suit. (One piece for girls)

GIRLS: Don’t wear sleeveless shirts or
shorts that are too short.  That maybe acceptable in the US but a lot of
cultures try to stay modest.  THINK MODEST IS HOTTEST!

WARNING…..RANDOM: This is a random fun thought I had.  I have been cleaning out my room and I have all these beanie babies that I longer need.  What if all of us who have some beanie babies bring like 5 or so to give to the kids.  This idea might not happen, but its just a thought.

Culture/In Country:

When we are in Jamaica the culture is very important.  We don’t want to offend any of the people.  What I strive to be able to do everywhere I go is look as much like a local as possible.  That way you are safer and don’t offend anyone.  On that note be aware of where your items are at all times.  I don’t say this to try to scare you, but we need to be know these kind of things before we leave.  It is important to me that everyone remain out of danger.

There are more things that we will go over at training camp.  For now here is a little info on one of Jamaica’s predominate religions.

The Rastafari movement was founded in Jamaica. This Back to Africa
movement believes that Haile Selassie of Ethiopia is God incarnate, the
returned black messiah, come to take the lost Twelve Tribes of Israel
back to live with him in Holy Mount Zion in a world of perfect peace,
love and harmony. Bob Marley, a convert to the faith, spread the message
of Rastafari to the world. There are now estimated to be more than a
million Rastafarians throughout the world.

Lets continue to remain in prayer for these people.  God is moving, and He is allowing us to be a part of it.
